Casper the Friendly Ghost was the brainchild of Seymour Reit and Joe Oriolo. Reit created the idea of Casper whilst Oriolo brought the ghost to life through animation. Reit’s initial idea was to use Casper as the character of a book, but he later sold the rights of the unreleased book to Paramount Pictures Famous Studios.
Casper the Friendly Ghost was first released onto our screens in 1945 and it immediately managed to court controversy. Casper the Friendly Ghost is a ghost of a young child and there were sections of the watching public who felt uneasy about this. Over the years though, Casper the Friendly Ghost has been beamed into the houses of people all over the world whilst becoming a global success and brand.
